Is there any way to check how full a flight is before booking?

I want to see how many seats are left if possible.

Do a dummy booking and choose to buy a seat - the options available will tell you how full the flight is at that particular point in time. The closer you get to final check-in, the more accurate it is, but also the more expensive the seats become.

You can sometimes view the seat map for the flight by making a dummy booking but that will only show people who have selected seats which is most likely a minority of people for short-haul flights.

It won't. As vg31 has pointed out, it will only show you the seats that have been reserved. So if you do a dummy booking and the seat map shows 100 empty seats, that doesn't mean there's 100 unsold seats - the flight could be almost full with only 2 slots left to sell meaning that 98 people have booked that flight but have chosen to not pay the charge to reserve a particular seat. So if you book the last two slots, you'd have a pool of 100 seats to choose from if you decided to pay to reserve your seats.

Two questions you need to ask yourself, how long is the flight and can I bear to be apart from my partner for that time. If the answer is No he/She is not marriage material and you are welcome.

you'd also have to ask is it the amount of seats left to be sold, or amount of seats left to be chosen upon checkin.
    2 very different things.
