Hey guys just looking for some advice (not looking for hate) This year i will be finishing my LCA 2 course, While it was a great course i want to do the Leaving cert and get a good amount of points. i have no problem studying through the summer and all through the year of 6th year to get what i need, I just want to know how possible this is, I was looking at the exam pappers and with a a lot of study they dont seem impossible. just looking for advice on what books to get to study and what steps to take. The subjects i want to do are Engineering,Wood work, Maths ORD) English art and Agriculture science i am extremely dedicated to this so any advice will be helpful.

I can't see any/many schools agreeing to allow you complete that many subjects in one year and I assume another 2 year leaving cert course would mean you'd be at least 19 if not 20 by the end of it - would you be happy to remain in school that long constrained by school rules? I honestly think you are better off focusing on the future- have you applied for any further education courses? I think a PLC at the least would be a far better option rather than repeating a Leaving certificate

I would advise attempting to do Engineering in a year, while you might have the practical ability you won't have the theory learned as most of 6th year is taken up with the project and day exam.
I doubt a school will let cover Ag Science in a year as the practical element which consists of experiments and research on crops and animals really has to be started in fifth year.

Fair play to you for making this decision. I do agree with the above poster tho who said it might be difficult to find somewhere who'll let you do it. Technically you already have a Leaving Cert (Applied rather than Established) so I'm not sure if many schools would be inclined to take you on. I know you often hear of students repeating but you have to remember they've done the two year courses already whereas you haven't done any of the 6 subjects you want to do yet. It'll be difficult to get them all done in a year imo.

If you know what kind of area you're interested in doing in college I definitely think you should look into doing a PLC. Like realistically, the course will be a year long (maybe 2?) which would be the same length as doing the Leaving Cert anyways. If that goes well you can apply for colleges and universities afterwards. Use www.careersportal.ie to research courses and progression groups to see what you could possibly do :) best of luck either way!

Having done the LCA, you will also be much better prepared for a PLC course, which runs on much the same lines (modules and assignments/tasks).

You'll have to ask around if schools will let you do the leaving cert or if you have a subject in mind check if you can get in with a PLC (if that applies). Otherwise your best bet would be repeat schools or grind schools
