that's a long spin. train into connolly, walk up to the luas and get the luas out to sandyford?
if it's a wet day, that's a long walk though.

I also have my hybrid bike but unsure if it fits into train or tram if they allow me? i think it sounds better with train to pearse and then tram but excluding that, walking is a bit more is it?

Please to beacon on a folding bike whilst technically doable it's not really going to be much with the lack of suspension and lack of gearing.

It actually would be quicker on a road bike direct from clonsilla to sandyford.

depends on whether (s)he has decent facilities to do that at the destination. i used to do D15 to leopardstown by bike; takes an hour or so, without accounting for showering at the other end - so yes, it's quicker, but facilities are key.

Train from Clonsilla to Pearse Street = approx 40mins
Walk or scooter or cycle to Stephens Green Luas = approx 10mins
Luas to Stillorgan = approx 30mins
    Walk to Beacon = 10mins

That's 1.5hrs each way (without any delays).

You could also google car sharing or rideshare sites in Ireland and put in a request.
Or put a wanted ad on Adverts.ie

Another option is to check out getthere.ie.

    Eg.

    Folding bike and Train, Luas

    25 mins to docklands
15 mins cycle to Luas Stephens Green
    30 mins to Sandydford
    3 min cycle.

    Still be about a 1.30 I reckon.

I would consider if the job is worth it tbh honest. I did that commute years ago. I don't think I would do it again unless I was getting paid stupid money. Or needed the experience really badly.

Most I've done is 30 mins on my folding bike. Has gears. Don't need suspension.

Its doable. I don't find mine uncomfortable. 16" wheels. Plenty fast enough with 6 gears.

You might consider an electric bike.

from where to where you are taking 30mins? so is it electric bike? how about the roads? do we need to merge into main roads sometimes?just worried if the main roads are too busy with traffic at peak times?
    how you managing weather conditions?

I go d15 to city center. That was on a folding bike. I was just making the point that they are fine for cycling around the city. Don't need suspension. Gears are handy though. If I was on on the train a lot I'd lose the gears to get lighter bike. Is also pay extras to get a Brompton they fold so much smaller which you need if the train is busy. Trains are packed remember.

    Never used an electric bike.

Weather? What do you mean. My longest commute is 14k each way and I use a mountain bike for that. But it's on slicks and has panniers. Never did it more than 3 days a week though.

I think you need to do some practise runs to see how viable your route is. It sounds like you've not cycled in traffic before.

When Luas Cross City starts in December you could get a train from Clonsilla to Broombridge and get the Luas to Stillorgan (closer to Beacon than Sandyford). It will still be a very LONG journey - 3+ hours a day commuting.

Sandyford can be very wet & windy, especially in winter, and you can get soaked just walking the 10mins from the Luas to the Beacon Hospital.

yes you are right, especially city center roads(if I need to pass through that)
I'm careful at riding, ive been to blanch, damastown quite few times, rided easily on the paths which are clear most of the times)
