Taxsaver- commuting daily

I've been commuting from Athlone to Dublin for the last year and i'm only finally getting around to sorting out my taxsaver ticket.

I don't actually mind the commute, early start and home around 7.30pm, but it beats driving in my opinion anyway, the 6.30am train is relatively quiet and you can get some shut eye on the way up.

I usually get the train from Athlone to Heuston and then the LUAS down to bus aras. The irish rail site (and taxsaver site for that matter) has me stumped on how to get the fare calculator.

The taxsaver form I am filling out is looking for the exact cost of my monthly ticket and the actual ticket type. I cannot for the life of me find the exact journey (Athlone to Dublin City cente by rail-inclusive of LUAS journey) on the site. It just has Athlone to Heuston for €490.

My monthly ticket is usually in the region of €528 (without the taxsaver savings). I don't know why Athlone works out so expensive, Clara which is the next stop 15 minutes away is only €387 per month.

very basic question but how do I make a request for a ticket for Athlone to Dublin City centre (rail and luas) when the option isn't on the taxsaver site?

    https://www.taxsaver.ie/Ticket-Types/Rail-point-to-point-tickets/

Athlone to Heuston is EUR490 monthly and EUR 4,900 annual
Heuston to City Centre add on is EUR 43 monthly and EUR 430 annual (see below the stations listed).

The Intercity fares are based on distance travelled and are in zones - Clara and Athlone are in separate zones.

Is there an option of Athlone to Connolly via PPT and take LUas out of it

it'll be calculated on their pay packet, assuming their employer pays, so 20% i'd guess.

If a married person is applying for a taxsaver annual bus ticket, one on 20% the other on the 40% tax band which tax band is used for calculating the price of the taxsaver ticket?

Its the 20% person applying for the ticket
That may depend on whether they are jointly or separately assessed.

They are jointly assessed. Its hard to find an answer to it.

the ticket is bought by the employer and then is taken from the persons wages so that their taxable wage reduces

technically it is not a tax credit or reduction but a reduced wage

therefore it is the person getting the tciket that will see the benefit (so 20%)

While this is correct in the short term, for jointly-assessed couples doing an end of year tax return should see a cheque from Revenue for the balance. The total effective reduction will be the highest tax rate paid by the couple.
