Transit Visa question

Myself and my wife and kids are flying Cork-Amsterdam-Paris-Bangkok. My wife is Thai but has a spouse visa for Ireland.

We heard a story of her Thai friend getting stopped in CDG and being sent back to Ireland for not having a visa even though she was just connecting to fly to Bangkok.

I'll ring the French consulate Monday but we fly Friday week.

I've read that as long as she is married to an EU citizen she should be okay but her friend was also married to an Irish guy and was still sent back, something about connecting through more than one Schengen country.

    Anyone ever hear of this?

Why you going to Paris. Surely there are flights to Bangkok from Amsterdam?

Possibly a lot cheaper to do it the way you are. But there are also direct flights from Cork to Paris.

I don't know the answer to the visa question, but I am intrigued by your route!

The route is operated by KLM and it was a good bit cheaper. I can't say why it doesn't go straight to Paris.

Is it possible the friend mentioned flew with two different airlines? If so might that have brought them landside to transit terminals?

    Thats looks like

Aer Lingus to AMS, KLM to CDG and AF onwards. Its all a single ticket sold by KLM, problem is at both AMS and CDG you go through passport control.

Will need to pass passport control to enter Schengen at AMS (but not security) and pass passport control to exit Schengen at CDG, so you are very much not in transit

Flying direct Cork Paris wouldn't help as it would be a change of terminals in CDG (and not possible as KLM or AF don't code share with Aer Lingus on that route, I travel agent can do it as EI and AF have interline agreements but it would be insanely expensive)

Just an update for anyone interested. Due to the fact we are technically flying a domestic flight from AMS to FRA my wife needs a full Schengen Visa. I rang Schipol Airport and spoke with the passport control desk and they said they would have no problem letting her through with her GNIB card and marriage cert.

I am having trouble getting through to anyone at CDG airport.

Looks like I'll need to book her on a separate outgoing flight and ring KLM and ask them not to cancel her return flight of she does not checkin for the outbound flight

I am flying to South Africa from Cork, landing in Heathrow T2 and departing from T5 - 4 hours later to SA. I have been phoning and emailing non-stop for 5 days on the trot, even paid for a premium service, and not even they are giving me a concrete answer. I have been resident in Ireland since 2003, however I have not applied for my Irish Passport as yet, (no excuse, I just have not had the funds). I wonder if anybody has first hand experience of my question. I have a GNIB Card, expires in 2020, return tickets, valid passport. My two minor children will be going with, however they have Irish Passports. My question is, will I need a transit visa through London? Thank you so much.

Outbound there is no passport check

On return you have to pass through passport control in LHR as you are entering the CTA area. Ireland is visa free for SA but UK is not

If you have a "EEA family permit" which you may have you don't need a visa at all.

You need to speak to the GNIB or the UK authorities to get clarity, nothing posted he is legally certain

Sorry you don't have the funds for a passport but have the funds for a family to go to sa?!.

Probably not the most helpful comment but stands out.
