Mazda 3

Hi all. I'm currently looking at buying a Mazda 3 and i'm looking for some advice. I am happy enough with the car and my only issue is a slight bit of rust on it from what seems like loose chippins. See pics below.

I'm just wondering how easy/costly would it be to fix this and to prevent the rust from returning? And, would such an issue be a deal breaker for any of you if you were looking to buy a car?

Mazda 3's seem to have an issue with rusting roofs. Not sure what the cause is but I don't think it's stone chips.

That looks like it was egged.

Having had the displeasure of cleaning egg off of an egged car a number of times over the years, they leave paint damage in a shape just like that.

Yep, thats what i was afraid of. Mazda 3's are known to have rust issues. The car seems fine only for that though. I did get a quote of 150 euro to get it fixed and the pillar repainted.

I never encountered that before but I am definitely second guessing my loose chippins opinion.

I'm not saying the Mazdas aren't known for rust issues but if you Google image car paint egg damage, the pattern is fairly consistent with what you have there IMO.

If the rest of the car is rust free I wouldn't worry about that at all tbh. Check the underbody and arches well as this is where those cars are most prone.

    Will do. Cheers.

I'm considering buying a new 2018 Mazda 3 Saloon(machine grey metallic), is rust really an issue or only on older models? Also being put off by the entertainment system, seems fairly crap and fiddly, doesn't even have a touch screen!

Rust was an issue on them for years, from the mid 90's right up to the previous model. The latest model is too new yet to see how it fares against corrosion. Id be more worried about the engine if it's the diesel you are going for as mazda hasn't been renowned for making good modern diesel engines.
