I passed my EC test in 2014. Prior to taking the test I had one lesson with a driving school in Naas. Tbh, I didn't 'like' the instructor. I ended up taking my lessons and test in Athlone with this school - http://www.dlb.ie/AClearSteer-Driver-Training

The truck I drove is the Scania 'wagon-and-drag' shown on their homepage. I preferred this to a traditional artic truck. I found it much easier to get my head around than the tighter turning circle of a traditional artic (The instructor is a sound guy, very relaxed and steady. Not a 'know-it-all' like a couple of other instructors I previously used).

If you are willing to go to Athlone go to Dave Benson. He will provide lessons till you pass and is an excellent instructor.

Another consideration when choosing an instructor is what type/make of truck they use - as some truck gearboxes are easier to get used to than others.

I drove a Renault truck for my first (artic) lesson and I found the side-by-side box a horrible set-up to get used to. Having driven a Volvo FL6 for my rigid test with a split-shift box, I was delighted that the Scania 'rigid-plus-trailer' I used for my 'artic' lessons had the same type gearbox.

Thats my experience anyway, some people might prefer the side-by-side gearbox, I hated it.
