Landini Ghibli 100 Tractor Dead After Stalling Out

    Hi, we have a 2000 Landini Ghibli 100 tractor with a 10 foot woods cutter attached via the pto. We were bushhogging in the pasture and hit a small dirt ridge which caused the cutter to quit and stalled out the tractor.  Now the tractor is totally dead, i.e., no lights, no panel indicators, no nothing.  Voltmeter tests battery as ok and grounding wire is ok. We are told that maybe there is a safety switch or something that got tripped in the process of stalling out, but cannot find it. We disconnected the cutter from the pto, made sure all gears in neutral, pto off, etc. (unless there is something we've missed).  Just totally perplexed and no one can come out to help. (We are in the SE USA).  Thank you for any help or suggestions.

    I'd be checking all the fuses, maybe you damaged an electrical componenet and that has blown a main fuse.

    Check the PTO lever if there is a lever is off again.
    I stalled out my tractor and couldn't start it and called out a mechanic and he said to check the pto lever again and I did and it was left on and wouldn't start.
    I put the lever the other way that I thought was on ( I moved it to off ) and it started.
    I felt so foolish. But the reason the engine switched off ( I was spreading fertiliser) was a loose connection on the oil pressure switch.

    I have a 99 MF 4270.
    But I think they may possibly have the same engine as the Landini (perkins).
    Here's the wire and oil pressure switch. Check the connection on that and tell us how you get on.

    It's on the left hand side of the engine as you're sitting in the cab.

    Something similar happened here. Stalled the tractor while working the pto and wouldn't start again. Turns out a safety feature wouldn't allow the engine to start with the pto engaged. It stumped us for half a day before we rang a local mechanic.

    Thank you Pedigree 6, I will definitely tell my husband to check this out.  Yes, it is a perkins engine.  
    To Justjens, I will have him also check main fuse as well.

    Googled it earlier, was hoping for something a bit more exotic, but little did I know I had been at the same thing earlier in the week.

    Last time I went bushhogging, ended up with barbwire wrapped around the shaft and smoke coming from the belt. :D

    We checked the oil pressure switch and you were right, it was in fact broken.
    However, after finally receiving the part and installing it over this past weekend, we are still dead. For a millisecond, we got a brief gas gauge measure on the dash, then all went dead again. Volt meter tests battery etc as ok. Where does the wire go from the oil pressure switch? Is it possible that it could be loose or broken? Or anything else?

    I hope other posters chip in on this too.

    So it didn't allow ye to start the tractor when ye changed the switch but it did allow power to go to the fuel gauge for a millisecond.

    There's obviously a break then in the current going to the switch. So check the fuse belonging to the switch and check the wire going to the switch with a current tester.

    May be ye have looked at these already?

    Edit: May be this wire from the pressure switch is a ground wire or it goes to the fuel solenoid?
    I'm out of my dept on this one.
    All I know is take off the wire from the pressure switch and the tractor stops dead or won't start till it's connected again.

    Im not so sure about the oil pressure switch being part of your problem,if you have no power going to anything follow the leads from battery to starter and see have you power there,then follow the wires into the dash,more than likely there will be three or four jumbo fuses plus the fuse box in the cab,the jumbo fuses could be outside under the bonnet somewhere,I'm not to up on your tractor but hopefully someone will come along with more info,its something simple wrong but just to find it now...

    There is a fuse box at the front beside the battery. If you are getting no power to the dash, it could be there the problem lies.

    I've a mythos so I've attached the image from the workshop manual. I'd imagine they are similar

    It could be that fuse B blew for whatever reason and the tractor stayed moving due to sufficient power coming from the alternator.
