Marathon Trainng - Long Run Advice

    Hi, I am about 4/5 week's into my marathon training, and up to about 20k on my long runs. I normally do my long run on a Saturday but I am tied up one of the weekends where I simply won't be able to do it. Could I do a long run the previous Saturday and then do the following weeks long run on the Monday or Tuesday or would only having a days rest in between be too much? Any help appreciated.

    Others might advise differently but if it's just the one long run, so long as it's not a long long run (18/20 miles) I wouldn't worry too much about it, missing one long run won't ruin your Marathon.
    If you really want to do it then why not do it the day before (6 days after your last long run) rather than 2 or 3 days after?

    If this is your first or second marathon I would remove the next session after the weekend and substitute it with the long run. Also how tied up are you for the weekend i mean could this be done say 5-6 am on the saturday morning ?

    People think that you can only run a good marathon if you stick to the plan totally. tbh if you do around 90% of the prescribed runs then that is all that is expected. Things can always get in the way that can prevent you doing a run but as long as those are kept to a min then your fine. Don't be too hard on yourself. Getting every run done in a marathon plan would show that you are inflexible and that you are putting yourself under too much stress. Though on the other extreme I was talking to someone who had missed 6 full weeks training in 6 months (2 due to sick, 2 due to holidays, 2 because busy at work) There are excuses which most of that is and there are things that you can't control.

    Recovery from a long run is key. If you are going to miss one or two long runs in a 16 week build up then thats fine.
