Ebel sport Wave 200m problem....

Last year my eight-y/o sport Wave, bought on a whim to help a buddy out through his divorce, developed an annoying problem.

The stem/winder would no longer screw in, although everything else was just fine.

I sent it to our local Ebel repair facility and left it with them to estimate the cost of repair.

    I nigh-on dropped my coffee when I got the response - £660 + VAT.

It goes without saying that I asked to have it returned to me, un-repaired, and I'm living with the fact that it no longer looks 'zackly right, but in compensation, I have a decent collection of other watches to wear.

BTW, the accompanying note advised me that certain replacement parts were 'restricted', and could only be installed in the atelier. This common part is one such item. Has anybody else here come across this 'little foible' of the watch-making industry?
