So I need 1 root canal and 11 fillings. Another one of those fillings is possibly root canal as well, I will find out with the next visit.

I've got a temporary filling on the first root canal.

    The fillings are €90-100

    Root Canal €400

I know the answer is probably there's is nothing you can do but just work through this bit by bit, but I feel I should ask anyway cause it's so much money. I can't make weekly trips to NI where its cheaper cause it's too far away.

I could get the 2 teeth extracted I guess but that's not ideal.

Is it possible to be put asleep and get the 10 fillings done? (maybe 11 if im lucky with other one). Will that cost even more? Just saving on ten visits..maybe 1 big trip to NI?

I'm not a dentist, but I recently needed 2 fillings. One on the left side and one on the right. I wanted them both done on the same day but the dentist said they only do one side of the mouth at a time. The reason she gave me is that if she was to numb both sides of my mouth for the fillings, I wouldn't be able to talk or eat at all for a few hours until the anesthetic wore off, so she feels it's better to only do one side at a time. I did tell her that I wouldn't mind having my whole mouth numb but she said no.

So she did one side before Christmas and the other after New Years. I wasn't in any pain so I wasn't in a rush to get them done anyway (the cavities were spotted during a routine checkup). Your dentist might be the same in that they'll only do one side at a time anyway. If you aren't in pain then you could ask your dentist if you can get the fillings done in stages depending on which ones need doing first.

Honestly if you can take time off and go to the dental hospital and get the fillings done by a student you could have a very good experience.

I know lots of students who get patients who need this much treatment.

You will have longer treatment times but if cost is a priority then it is an option worth pursuing.

Go to Latvia and get you teeth dine. The flights aren't too pricey and much cheaper for a visit

A general anaesthetic will cost around 2000 euro.
10 fillings in NI will cost around the same as in the South.
I am sure you can get more than on filling done per session...maybe 4-5 visits in total.
Generally dentistry all done in a big rush to save time is a bag of crap and causes problems.

Why stop at Latvia....India is really cheap ;). Cheap and Quick is a good thing for dental work...right?

Well the shock of all the work I need has settled in my head, so I'm just going to reduce my savings for a few months while I work through it. Couple of fillings each months at my local dentist. I don't even have the holidays left to consider going abroad or spending days up in the dental school, it's probably the most sensible option anyway.

I missed my first appointment so 40e fine just to add to the misery!

A lot of clinics, including my own, will not give you a second appointment if you didn't turn up to the first, or may be reluctant to give you the longer appointment times necessary to do a few fillings, in case you don't turn up again.

They just add 40e to my bill. Was 1 hour booking to see if 2nd bad tooth is filling or root canal.

Consider going to eastern europe. Likes of Hungary. Its fairly cheap there.

It's not that simple.... you just made the practice sh1tlist and the will/should cut you no slack in future....
I'd recommend popping into them and paying that €40 now and start with a clean slate. I require patients to pay a deposit for an appointment if they have done this to me in that past...

Or I'll just go and pay the 40 on Thurs before my filling

It's smile franchise so that's just how it is

    cheap isnt always the best.

I have a choice of getting a root canal done in Slovakia by a dentist i know or in india when i'm out there later this year. Friends know the indian dentist.
I'm choosing to pay €700 to get it done in Dublin. Its not straighforward and if things go wrong, which they could, would be expensive to rectify

My wife has had a crown done in slovakia but being at home for 7 weeks in the summer and getting it done early in case of issues makes the difference.

OP you dont need enough work to make the economics of traveling make sense. It never really makes sense unless you living there or visiting regularly, then its not medical tourism anyway.

There are good and bad dentists in every country. Certain regions also have styles, acceptable standards and patterns of dental works that might not be seen in other areas as equally good.

No barber every told you up front they were going to give you a bad haircut, go carefully, its sounds like you cannot afford to have a bad job done, which is actually the most important thing if you think about it.

I've decided to stick to my local, twice a month until it's all done.
