Hi, planning a day trip to Venice in July. Would I need to book a tour guide now or would there be plenty available at time time?
planning on the main sites, nothing too out of the way, St Marks, Doge's palace etc.

and why free? are you expected to make a donation or something? we had contacted a tour guide who was charging euro180 for 2 hours and had limited slots for that week, allegedly

    Be prepared for long queues
Do the Arsenale and the Jewish quarter. A bit of reading would help.

That government have banned the free walking tour s in Venice.
They want a cut of the tips those guys receive.
You can probably still find them, but honestly Venice is small.
The best experience of Venice is to just get lost, then pick a target on the other side and just walk til.you get their. You gomthrough twists, alleyways, over bridges and see way more than you would otherwise.
It doesn't take long at all.
