Combo Box that follows Freq Changes?

    Hi all,

I'm looking to get a new combo box for the parents. Thing is that they're not exactly tech savvy so if a channel moves (which they seem to often do!! CNN being the most recent) they have to wait until I'm home to be able to re-calibrate it.

Is there such a thing as a combo box or even a freesat box that can follow where a channel moves to? Do channels even have the capacity to alert set top boxes to the change ? Disappointing if not given the era we live in.

Thanks guys - hoping you can help.

Ah the good old days when you just had to hit auto-tune..

In the good old days you had the same problem with satellite receivers, channels changed frequency and they had to be retuned and resorted but there was less channels. The problem now with digital there is a lot more channels now including duplicates.

Freesat and Sky are the only boxes that'll do what you want. Unfortunately the freesat box doesn't have the Irish channels. Don't know of any combi receivers that'll do the same.

I had a Walker WP645TS-HD box that I used for testing but I gave it to my parents for this reason. I don't think it automatically updates in SatFree mode but the rescan is pretty simple and only takes a few seconds so it's the best I've seen on a combo. They're happy with it.

If they're configured properly, which can be a minefield. My parents had an Alien 2 before this and they found it a nightmare - that one did lose channels.

It's very rare for major channels to move transponder. However for some reason CNN has moved twice in the past few weeks which is equally unusual.

A real e2 box with autobouquets installed. Not an Amiko.

get a freesat box whose remote control can be used on the TV
use the telly for Irish channels

Also works with a second hand SKY box, but then no recording or HD

Like as has been said a Freesat box is a good fit, auto updates, no Irish channels but these can be got through tv if the set is 4-5 years old, humax remotes can be programmed to operate a tv. I like messing with this stuff but rescanning, deleting, regiggin, can be a pain and very frustrating irrespective of age

I'd also add that a lot of the content on the UK owned "Irish" channels like TV3 , 3e , Be3 is on Freesat and in HD

Any of the Enigma2 boxes can handle auto updates. The plugin autobouquetmaker works well but does require some setup
