Am a small bit confused about the differences between 1.6 tdci and hdi engines. I know it's made by Peugeot but here is where I am confused., I have a 10 focus which I was told is an 8v engine while the 308 etc are classed as 16v.

Is there such a thing as an 8v hdi engine or is mine also a 16v.

Was told mine is a newer version version so can any one throw any light on it for me?

    Thanks
    Roy

The older Focuss were 16v, they changed to 8v later on. Peugeots came with 8 and 16v versions of that engine too. The 8v is thought to be more reliable.

As far as I know, the 8V DV6c TDCi was only fitted to the new model Focus that came out from 2011 onwards. The model prior to this were, I understand, all fitted with the 16v

OP, you could key your registration number into an online parts checker and see if it lists a timing belt and timing chain for your engine. 16V had both, the 8v is belt only. Also the 16v has an EOLYS tank for the DPF whereas the newer 8v does not.
