Ceremony Room Hire

    Hi all,

Just wondering what the average cost of hiring the room to get married in is? We had almost picked our dream venue but were then hit with what I think is an outrageous price for the use of the room in this hotel for our civil ceremony. I maybe naively had assumed this was included considering we are hosting our entire wedding reception there over 2 days and had not budgeted for it at all..I don't mind paying it if this is the norm
But I don't want to be paying well over the odds either, dream venue or not!

Their reason being that the entire room would be closed off for the day to allow for set-up and ceremony-this room could
Normally be used to eat and drink in for hotel guests so I suppose they would be losing out on that-just interested to hear people's thoughts??

Am learning very fast that hidden costs are cropping up everywhere when wedding planning!

    Thanks in advance!

I don't know if it's the norm or not. But we looked at two hotels, one was charging €200 for room set up for approx 60 guests. The second hotel doesn't charge for it. We've gone for the second hotel because they had the date we wanted. We will be getting married in a different room to the reception and there still isn't any set up charge.

It depends on the venue. One we looked at wanted an 800 euro hire charge before we spent a cent on food and drink (not a hotel but a restaurant that hosts weddings.

This place is charging us nearly €2,000! I just can't justify that can I??

Hold the phone, are you saying you're having the reception there and they want an EXTRA 2k to have the ceremony there too? That's insane.

A lot of hotels will include the use of the ceremony room as part of the package. Some will charge a set-up fee but it's usually a couple of hundred max.

But it's over two days, not one day. So it would make sense that they're charging a price to reflect that ... after all, they could easily otherwise book in another full wedding/reception on one of the two days.

Well day 2 is just the usual barbecue-we won't be needing the ceremony room or function room again? I thought it was crazy too-I just couldn't imagine that anyone pays this much that's why I was asking so hoping they might back down when we're further into signing on the dotted line?? I'm so upset I thought it was our dream venue!

    That is ridiculous.

I run events (not weddings) and the set up for the room would be minimal - in fact, I get my rooms for free (I'm bringing 150 to your hotel and they'll all be buying beer and food).

Ask them to break down the cost for you.

The room will only be used for an hour for the ceremony and you'd be out of there by 2pm / 3pm.
