Buying a crashed UK import

    Hi,

So im looking at getting a 2011 Volkswagen that was crashed and imported for the UK. The repair looks as good as new and its now has an Irish reg. Its been nct and taxed. Its about 30% below market value. Seller doesn't have the service history though. Is getting an online history just as good?
Would getting this insured be more expensive due to the above?

So what do you guys think? Thanks

rdIs it worth the risk for the saving? Sounds like a bit of a lemon tbh, you might be saving a little but sending yourself into a world of pain and expense with potential failures associated with a car with a colourful history like that.

Is it advertised online? If so post up a link to it.

    50 shades of grey.

I'd be checking that extremely carefully.

Call your insurance company first, some won't cover them depending on the initial damage rating. Other than that could be hard to resell down the line if buyer bothers to run a history check.

Personally I would want to see photos of the car pre repairs to see how bad the damage was.

    Was it rear ended?

Honestly there is not a snowball's chance in hell I would buy one of those 1.4 TSi engines with no service history. They are prone to timing chain trouble with full service history. With no history you may as well budget it into the purchase price.

    It's not even a TSi, it's the whimpy 80bhp 1.4 litre engine.

Ownership also changed on the 19th May. The "missing" service history stinks in my books. I wouldn't consider €7500 cheap for a 6 year old petrol damage repaired Golf.

    Yes it was.

Oh wow just did a google on timing chain as you mentioned seems pretty bad.

Thank god I started this thread as I was never committed to buying.

So the general consenus would be to leave it? is there anything the seller could do/provide that would change your minds if you were in my position?

    Thanks all

Yep. Panel gap is too big.

Bonnets off one side, bumper both sides and the boots off too. That wouldn't inspire confidence.
