The AWS IoT Button is a programmable button based on the Amazon Dash Button hardware.
This simple Wi-Fi device is easy to configure and designed for developers to get started with AWS Internet of Things technology.
Eliminate the hassle of writing device-specific code; code in the cloud to configure your button's single, double and long clicks.
Companion mobile apps allow you to start using your button in minutes.
The button's battery lasts more than 2,000 clicks.

Cheaper Philips Hue switch you can put anywhere? :)

Question is can an avg Joe like me set it up easy enough?

Seems interesting. I would say it would be slower than Hue switches. As from my understanding of the dash buttons is when you press them it first has to connect to WiFi and then send the request, which adds a second or two delay.

If they allowed sending requests locally instead of to AWS it would be even better for integration into home assistant and other local hubs.

Yes I think it's similar in timing to IFTTT commands. So a pain in the backside for fast switching requirement. I could be wrong here though

It would work very well for a heating on off button though

These have been hacked for quite a while to use with Home Assistant.
