    Hi,

Does anyone know if someone is extradited from Ireland to the UK to stand trial, is then found innocent, are the UK government obliged to pay for the fare to repatriate them?

No, I don't think so. Just like with any other prisoner, if you're acquitted you're immediately released. Where you do after that is up to you.

As an Irish citizen in the UK, you're not obliged to return to Ireland; you can remain in the UK if you wish. If you want to go back to Ireland, it's up to you to get yourself back. If you're destitute, I imagine you can apply to the authorities for a supplementary grant to fund your passage home.

The only circumstance in which the UK Home Office would pay to repatriate you would be if they were deporting you. But in the circumstances you describe they'd have no basis for deporting you.

Prisoners released from Shelton Abbey get a bus ticket home.

I'd imagine in the uk, the prosecution service of the country the prosecution was in would have a policy. There's no cps in the 6 counties for example.
