When was the last time you phoned the 'Operator/Directory Enquiries'?

I can't remember the last time. Is that what those 11850/11890 numbers are?

I have vague memories as a small child of my mother having to phone a switchboard first to get put through to relatives in another part of Ireland.

I havent used one in at least 15 years.

I'd imagine with technology, there wouldn't be much call for such a service nowadays - one quick Google search is all it takes to find out phone numbers of a business, location, opening hours etc...even the phone book is online!

Anybody know anyone who ever worked in Directory Enquiries?

Sure most people are too lazy to google and instead open up facebook and post a status asking does anyone else have the number.

I probably haven't used it since my last day working as a receptionist which was about 13 years ago now.
I got in the very bad habit of not trying to remember phone numbers and ringing 11811 to get them to connect me to whoever I was calling.

When I used be in college their was a time I had a very basic phone with no internet. If I finished college early I rang them to get the number of of the bus station and I had a habit of say the name of the train station and having to get reconnected all over again!
