SW & Part-time work: SW working week v's employers working week

    Hi all,

I have a question about X's and O's, and an issue I've encountered regarding SW working week versus my employers working week.

I recently started a part time job, which is contracted for 15 hours per week (5 hours per day over 3 days) on a rota/shift work basis. The forms that need to be completed each week, i.e. the x's and o's forms, consist of a working week from Tuesday to Wednesday. However my employers week (like basically all other employers) runs from Sunday to Saturday.

This puts me in a situation where I might work Wednesday, Thursday & Friday in week 1 for example, and then Monday and Tuesday the following week (week 2). On the x's and o's form this would appear that I worked 5 days in a week, even though it was only 3.

I have gone to my local SW office to ask about this but I am given different answers each time. The last person I spoke to said I must only work 3 days within their working week (the week that runs Tuesday to Wednesday), even though a previous person I spoke to said as long as it's only 15 hours it's fine.
This seems highly unfair and ridiculous, especially seeing as they have it in writing from my employer that I am on contract for 15 hours per week/3 days per week only. It's also very frustrating that I can't seem to get a solid, definitive answer from SW.

Has anyone had any experience similar to this? Any advice would be welcome.

    Thanks
    K

I had the exact same issue. Had it out with social welfare a few times. There's nothing can be done about it. In the end myself and a few other employees came to an arrangement where we worked the same days every week. Are there any other part timers you could possibly come to the same arrangement with? It would obviously benefit them to.
