    Hi there,
    New to here,
A few months ago i found that a suspect device had been placed on my personal car. Where it came from i do not know however I have my suspicions. To this day I'm still very much worried as to why it was placed there in the first place whether it was down to the matter of mistaken identity / someone trying to steal my car etc. I was wondering where does the law stand on a matter like this ? I've contacted the Gardai on the matter and they've been of little help saying that no law has been broken ? I know this is something that doesn't happen everyday however it has happened to me. It could be nothing or something more sinister and I personally fear for myself and family at times

I understand that the Supreme Court has said there is an implied right to privacy. However, the law doesn't seem to be well developed in the area.

There may be a data protection offensive related to non-consent. This may depend on who owns the vehicle, e.g. an employer might have cause to track their own vehicle.

There may be a stalking type offence.

If you aren't getting anywhere with the Garda, perhaps talk to a solicitor.

Do you have a barring order, safety order, protection order or similar in place? Do you want to consider one? http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/birth_family_relationships/problems_in_marriages_and_other_relationships/barring_safety_and_protection_orders.html

Was it a magnetic device attached to the underside of the car? Is your car a desirable model that would be of interest to thieves stealing to order?

I'm not seeing the angle for legal discussion and this smells of troll.

    Closed.
