Hi, i've just moved into a new place and there is a sky dish already set up. I'm not to clued in with Satellite tv but I tried tuning some channels. The only one that seemed to work was eurosport. It also picked up channels while tuning under cable. The EPG showed for the cable channels but no picture. Any tips on how I go forward?

    Thanks,

    TJ

Have you connected the cable from the satellite dish to the screw-on connector (F-connector) at the rear of the TV and done a satellite scan?

You appear to be connected to the Virgin Media cable network, the channels are encrypted and come in via the push-in co-ax connector to a Virgin Media box, sub is required to access them.

If Eurosport is coming through unscrambled then the dish is not pointing at the Sky group of satellites that are pointed, Sky channels are on 28.2E. I would say your dish is pointed at at 19.2 E.

If you have a look on http://www.dishpointer.com/ and search for the 28.2E position as regards your address it will show the direction it should be facing for Sky channels.

Here's a list of 19.2E channels, not many in English

I am definitely connected to the satellite as I have routed the cable to it. I'll have to check when I get home which way the satellite is facing but it is roughly facing in correct direction as shown on dishpointer. Would it be wise to adjust the satellite by hand? Also, do I need to change the settings of the transponder? Thanks

Pointing the dish accurately can be difficult on your own, maybe with assistance of someone watching the meter on TV while adjusting it could be done.
