Hi, hope I'm doing this right... me and new things. I have an Oxford welder 325 that I'm trying to bring back to life, I'm just wondering if the hive mind is aware of any person/company that is of note in the area of mig welder repairs. It used to be my uncles and I'd like to get her going again. My main issue is when pull the trigger there is no action what so ever even though there is power to the main body and remote wire feed unit also the tip is constantly live, if you touch it of the work piece it arcs like a bumper car aerial. I have changed both relays in the main body as well as the remote wire feed unit as they has some smoke/soot damage but to no avail. Any input is welcome. thanks

I'd be a bit rusty trouble shooting these.

If the torch is live all the time, then the contactor https://www.google.ie/search?q=electric+contactor&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&sqi=2&ved=0ahUKEwjlyPXqsavUAhVIb1AKHWzICM4QsAQIswE&biw=1366&bih=638#tbm=isch&q=electric+contactor&chips=q:electric%20contactor,g_1:power is staying in when mains power is on.
My first guess is that the control PCB in the WFU is shot.

The way it should work is-
Pull trigger-this sends signal to PCB-PCB initiates power to contactor (which pulls in with an audible 'clunk' making torch live ) and also initiates the wire feed motor to run and the gas to flow.

As far as fixing it goes, it depends on where you are as to who you might try. Or try and locate a PCB. I can't be 100% that's the problem though.

Thanks for the Info 1.618, I am in Galway but I would have no problem traveling to get her looked at. It was a great welder for my uncle and i'd like to exhaust all the avenues available before i buy a new MAGS welder. Any name or number then you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

I don't really know anyone over there sadly. You could ask local suppliers like Caulfield etc or eng co's like P.Rynn eng who they use. It's a decent make alright so maybe worth spending a few quid on.

You seem handy enough so I'd try to pin the problem down a bit more. See if you can recognise the noise of the contactor pulling in when switching on. Then while machine is switched on, disconnect the cables that go between the WFU and the power source (safe enough as low voltage) If the contactor pops out then it's defo a WFU problem. If the contactor stays in with no WFU connected, it's gone and could be replaced.
