Yes. It makes and receives calls every day. Not having even a half decent mobile reception at home has a bearing of course.

8 years... just call your mobile from it and you'll find out.

Have a house phone but I have no idea where it is, the base is plugged into the wall and I'm sure the phone is knocking around somewhere but I'd be arsed if I'm looking for it now.

The base should have a button to make the handset ring. Press it. Sorted.

(Unless the handset ran out of power...then yer shagged).

Lol. Same. I've always had one. I just thought "I know my number tho, right?". I don't. Not a clue.

Herself likes it tho, and it's good for when there's no signal. My mobile knows the number.

    Dafuq is our number anyway?

    Goes off to find out.

We have a house phone. Its only ever used for phone calls to things like customer service lines where you dont know how long it can be. Its permanently on silent, so no phone calls are answered.

We had a house phone up to about the year 2000 but we got rid of it when everybody got mobiles. We got reconnected in 2007 to get Broadband and had the phone for a brief while before we lost it. We eventually did a deal with eir and got 5 off per month if we gave up the landline.
We're planning on getting a cheap mobile just to have in the house.

How come you don't want to answer incoming calls?

We use ours to ring Sky customer care. I don't think we use it for anything else. Herselfs Mother rings on it, because she is old. No one else does. Your head would be cooked using a mobile to call Sky customer care.

When we did have the Landline the only calls we used get were from people selling things or surveys. So, it wasn't answered!

Yes we have a house phone. I have never used it and don't know our number even though we have it over 8 years. My wife, on the other hand, uses it lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots.

If you get internet from Virgin, Eircom or the like you really should hook up a landline. Everything seems to get bundled these days.

With my deal you get 60 minutes of free calls with the internet each month (Virgin) Hardly use it but beats using credit on your mobile.

We live in a mobile coverage black spot so a landline is handy for making calls.

    We use a voip service.

I was in my Aunts old house a few months ago.
I heard the house phone ring out in the hall.
    Its an old phone.
When it rang out there in the hall, with its old-fashioned chime, I must confess I got a tinge of nostalgia.

My parents still have one in their house even though it is almost ever used. It's an ex directory line also so no sales calls. The every odd time is does ring, it strikes fear into both of them as they know it's usually from an elderly relative or former acquaintances who don't have their mobile numbers or are ringing in a panic.

The last 3 calls, about one a year, have been to let them know of someone's death!

Still it will stay there as long as they do.

Both. I only use the landline for dialing customer service lines, where this is no geographical number to be found. It also goes by the name of the Mum/Dad line, as they are the only ones who ring it, I don't even know the number for it after nearly two years.

I'm pretty sure a house phone is part of my Virgin Media bundle, but they never gave me a handset and I can't be arsed asking for one.

    Same here, never answer it.

Occasionally if it rings a few times in a row, one of us will go and look at it, but we still don't pick it up.

Used for the occasional outgoing call only.

I have one, comes as part of my broadband package. The only time I use it is to ring my mobile if I cant find it. :D

I don't have a house phone, you'd be lucky to get me to answer my mobile most of the time so it would just be another phone for me to ignore. I tell people that the reception is bad in my apartment, it isn't great but it's not that bad either. Text me or go away. It gives me time to formulate a response, especially if you are asking me about a meet up I'm trying to wriggle out of.

I have one that came as part of my broadband / tv package - the only one who uses it is the baby!
The actual handset is a hand me down from the girlfriends parents so she used to ringing all sorts on it, I've deleted all the pre stored numbers bar my own and her mothers just so she still occasionally gets a surprise answer:D
I have no idea what the phone number is.

Yup, it's deadly, the only people that call us on it are Mrs. Baps family in Germany...so I never answer it!

I have a house phone, I've received one call on it from sky, the reason I keep it plugged in is, I have teenagers who constantly have their phone in their hands but are unable to answer a call or a text when they're babysitting.. it melts my brain .. :D
