Looking to get one large skylight window for a flat roof extension. Skylight.ie and foldingdoors.ie have been recommended. Has anyone any other recommendations? Very tight budget! Thanks in advance. Dublin.

How tight is tight and how large do you want it.
Is the flat roof existing which makes this a retrofit or is the roof under construction so that the window guys can slot into a ready made structure to support it?

Quick look at the skylite site. Would it not be cheaper to get a large fakro/velux instead of something which looks a lot more custom made. I'm sure there's any number of folk specialising in fitting same.

If the budget is very tight then simplifying the spec (including something which is mass produced) is one way to go.

You could ring Mac's Salvage or check done deal and adverts for someone flogging the velux/fakro flashings and flat roof kit. You might just pick up the window that way and go to velux/fakro for the rest.

Tight budget usually means more work your end!

Thanks for replies. It's for a back extension so yet to be constructed. We are complete novices and haven't a clue, will have to be installed as part of the building job, but we need to probably decide and choose actual window type, architect says not to go for velux but really just looking for recommendations on places we could visit to view or website with decent gallery

    Look for examples.
Are you going flat roof or pitched roof?

Large flat roof windows can be 3kish depending on size.

The generic name for the glazing which I oughtn't have mentioned is a rooflight. Why does your arch not rate them? Is he trying to achieve something that little bit more special? I can't imagine this as other than costing

You could try looking at the brochures where they stitch a row of rooflights together, with minimal spacing between them. If you did that you'd get a skylight effect. Something to check the costs on.

I wonder is there anyone selling non opening rooflights, given you don't need all of them to open (if any of them). You'd imagine this would cheapen things up a tad.

HI all looking for the rough cost of the skylight 1 meter by 2 meters big - just the window itself as well as rough cost for fitting? anybody any ideas? Thanks

If 1 meter by 1.5 meters is big enough both Velux and Fakro as mentioned above do off the shelf flat rooflights. You can get them fixed or electric opening. That's the cheapest way as they're easy to fit with all the flashings, instrutions, etc and any roofer or builder can fit it.

The jump to non standard is considerable and gets more technical as who designs the upstands, etc. Obviously they can look better and be a lot larger but if you're only looking for a tiny bit bigger then I'd strongly consider going for an off the shelf one.

    EDIT:
you're posting the same question in multiple threads.

I got the below quotes from 3 different rooflight suppliers (can send names by PM if want). As Dudda says though the upstands and fitting will be easier with off the shelf rooflights from major suppliers.
Glazing U-Value Size Price (ex VAT)
    Double 1.1 1m x 2.5m €980
    Triple 0.7 1m x 2.5m €1,210
    Double 1.1 1m x 2.5m €980
    Triple 0.7 1m x 2.5m €1,210

    Double 1.1 1m x 2.5m €1,500
    Triple 0.7 1m x 2.5m €1,750
    Double 1.1 1.2m x 2.4m €1,728
    Triple 0.7 1.2m x 2.4m €2,016

    Double 1.2 1m x 2.5m €1,875
    Double 1.2 1m x 2.3m €1,785
    Double 1.2 1m x 2m €1,600
