Put up a post a while back for my dad and got some good advice on alternative cars to look at so it's my turn now.

We already have a small car, 1.2l seat ibiza, never given us a bit of trouble, 2nd owners but owned from pretty much new. We were looking at trading it in but with what we are being offered we reckon we are as well off keeping it and running it into the ground. It's cheap to service and cheap for tyres, it would become our spare car and be used around 2/3 times a month I'd say.

So now we are looking to get something bigger. We will need 5 doors. Wouldn't be mad on anything too big so a decent sized family car. Main things are it needs to be economical, we do a good bit of driving, over 20,000km a year so probably in the range for a diesel but if I could find an economical petrol I'd go for that. The other thing I'd like is a bit of comfort in it. The seat is nice but it feels a bit cheap. I don't need integrated sat nav and things like that but something with a nice cabin, comfortable seats and a bit of space would be nice. Leather interior would be a big plus with our dog but not a deal breaker.

I've had a 1.4L TSI golf that I sold a few years back. Liked it more than I thought I would and reckon that type of size would suit. At the moment we have 'narrowed' it down to Golf's, Focus, Leon, Auris, I30 (not mad on this myself though), and have looked at one or two nissan jukes too.

Budget would be in and around 14,000 euro. Won't be happening in the next month or two but are there any other cars I should be looking at? If I do go for an Auris (probably looking best value at moment) what sort of spec should I expect? I know the volkswagen and seat trims but no idea of toyota's. Cheers folks.
