I put an ad on Done Deal yesterday, I got 2 text messages this evening asking is the furniture still available and could I send an email to an email address

when the text came in the name on the text was "van" and the second " johansson" I don't have either number in my contacts list

    Is this a scam?

I'd say so. There's no justification for it in fairness

I'd say so. We've had a couple like this. If u reply to the text it won't go through? They agree the asking price. Tell u that they live abroad, will pay by PayPal including a courier charge, but you're supposed to pay the courier or something. The PayPal notification is fake. Doesn't show up if u check your PayPal.

Nope, I actually just got this (very obvious):

Thanks for the reply, I'm paying you the asking price and I will like to complete this transaction through PayPal as PayPal protect both buyer and seller. If you do not have a PayPal account, simply login to www.paypal.ie and set up your own PayPal account, once you have successfully set up your PayPal account, you will use the request money button located at the top of your PayPal account home page to request money from my PayPal account which is aoife8373@gmail.com once i receive your money request notice from PayPal, I will transfer the money to your PayPal account, thereafter PayPal will automatically send a payment confirmation notice the moment i transfer funds to your account then you will be able to withdraw the money from your PayPal account to your bank account.

I'm buying this Dress for my granddaughter for her wedding ceremony, you will post it to her through Post Office, I will be responsible for the postage cost. I look forward to receive your money request through PayPal soon so that I can deposit funds to your account.

    Regards

Do they claim to be in Ireland? Looks more legit than ours!

It didn't get that far. I emailed back saying for her grand-daughter's sake, I didn't feel comfortable selling and shipping a wedding dress that has not even been viewed, let alone tried on and asked if she would consider meeting somewhere or at least a bank draught. There was no response so I reported the matter to DD and they told me the account had been removed and confirmed as suspicious (I presume there were a few reports).
I'm quite tech savvy, or I like to think so - this is a very clever scam!

    We were both lucky!

I've decided now that I never respond to a text message when they ask to email back.
