Just wondering if anyone has a steer on how much to replace two front springs in a 2008 BMW 520d M Sport?
Broke a spring in Belfast yesterday and dealer is getting back to me with prices tomorrow.

    40 - 60 per spring
    Tracked and balanced
    2-3hrs labour(80 -100ph if main dealer)
    VAT

500 thereabouts at worst if BMW do it.

First quote back. €987 inc VAT from dealer in South. Still waiting on Belfast but hopefully it'll be better than that.

Ouch, the BMW Main Dealer "think of a figure and double it" quotation strikes again. Ring him back and tell him you don't want the gold-plated ones!

Main Dealer would be getting those springs for less than €40 I'm told. They must fit them really, really, slowly.

Jasus. Run away from the main dealer. Here is the cost of the springs. Find a decent indi and save yourself a heap of cash.

Dealer in Belfast has come up much the same price. I know my local BMW Indy would fit them for less but it's not like I have many options. Had no idea who was good or bad in Belfast so really felt I had to get it brought to dealer.

Apparently Autotechnic in Castlereagh, and Euro auto service in the city centre have a good rep.

Thanks. I'll know if it happens me again. Car hasn't let me down for nine years so I'll put it down to experience.
Just lucky it didn't happen at speed.

It's fairly common with the 5 series apparently - most people only notice it because of the knocking sound. We've had several into the garage that were broken for a while.

With me it was a sudden and terminal bang. Less than 90k (km) on the car too. Car was driving perfectly earlier in the day so don't think it was broken.

Seeing as you're considering a dealer in both the North and South, go to Perfect Car in Dundalk, BMW specialists. I'd be surprised if the total is more than €400 for both sides done with genuine parts.

Your lucky the broken end of the spring didn't go through the tyre! BMW allround are some yokes to destroy springs.

Garage in Belfast padded the estimate in case they ran into trouble taking the old parts off. They were up front about it. Just paid the bill and they knocked a substantial amount off because they didn't run into trouble.
Final bill £700. Still too much but a good deal cheaper than the dealer in South.
