how much time should i leave

    Hi all
    I am travelling from Shannon to Newark with united.
    From asking around at work I have been told to be at the airport 3 hours before to allow for preclearance.
    This advice is from people that have used Dublin instead of Shannon.

    Does it take 3 hours or is this overkill

    2 is fine. You will be checked in online. Drop the bags and go to immigration after and you will have plenty of time.

    I imagine if you arrive at 7am for 9am flight you should be sitting in departure gate by 7.45 latest and on a good day 7.30am.

    Two hours should be plenty for Shannon, it's much less crowded than Dublin. Just remember you have to empty out and strip down again for US preclearance (including your shoes this time), so don't waste too much time sorting out all your belongings after airport security.
