Problems with Aer lingus boarding pass

    Hi there,

Had a boarding pass issued to my mobile as it came out with too narrow slit strip instead of normal sized boarding pass.

Security at the gate won't accept despite it's a valid boarding pass issued by aer lingus cos it was too small - a narrow slip strip instead of wide normal sized boarding pass issued by other airlines.

Hence missed my flight cos security said no after some haggle and also boarding pass kiosk said closed .

Had to go downstairs (T2) and they said go to ticket desk.

No fault of mine re narrow boarding strip as it was Aer lingus problem. Had to pay another ticket.

Got the impression that aer lingus knew about that boarding pass problem via mobiles but won't address it nor fixed it??

Thinking of booking with another airline next time??

    Any suggestions

    Complain through AL complaints procedures
If they refuse to refund go to small claims , if genuine they will rule against AL

If the boarding card was rejected, it should have taken no more than 5 minutes to return downstairs and get Aer Lingus to reissue it assuming you followed the advice to be at the airport on time, even if check in is closed reissue of the boarding card by a human shouldn't be a problem unless it was judged you could not make the gate in time

In some cases a completely valid boarding card will be rejected if you arrive at security too late (see Heathrow T5 as an example is 35 minutes)

So this is all the OP's fault ..... for not leaving enough time for the airline to fix the cockup they caused by issuing a dud boarding pass?
.... even if check in is closed reissue of the boarding card by a human shouldn't be a problem unless it was judged you could not make the gate in time

Or there was a queue at the general Aer Lingus counter. If check-in is closed, it's highly unlikely that anyone will issue a new boarding pass for that flight or that you will get to the head of the queue at the general Aer Lingus counter in time to even talk to someone about the problem.

So my flight is leaaving soon and I have an issue, yes I will ignore all of the helpful aer lingus staff who are assisting people with the self check in machines and go join a really long queue. Have you even been to the airport lately or is it the usual google based answers?

Can I ask OP, did you print the boarding pass from your phone?

from what I can gather the OP did not have a proper mobile boarding pass but one which you need to print out.
If it didnt scale properly, then how can that be the fault of aer lingus.
I'd also almost wonder did they even have a boarding pass or did they have the booking confirmation which has a narrow barcode saying "this is not a boarding pass" on it .

If you have their app you can checkin and get a perfectly usable boarding pass, and from what I gather even if you're checked in using a computer you can still get the pass via the app at a later stage. The barcode you get from the app is a nice square one.
Its nearly more hassle to checkin using a computer than using the actual app (once its installed obviously).

The OP tried the kiosk but the machine said that the flight was closed and the staff on the floor told him/her to go to the desk.....
...and also boarding pass kiosk said closed .

You don't need to be a frequent flyer to understand plain English. But since you ask, I have flown in and out of both T1 and T2 in 2017.

Do Aer Lingus not have an app where you can display the boarding pass like Ryanair?

That's my reading of the situation also. PDF sent to phone rather than using mobile app.

they do, and it works a treat.
You can send the pass then to the "wallet" and have it in your sleep screen
