We have a retest on my wifes car but she can't bring it on the day of the appointment.

My Father can bring it but is it allowed? If he brings the car cert and ID will they allow it?

    Anyone can bring once insured.

Just make sure they have I.D and may need to show vlc.

I've brought various relatives cars for the NCT. You obviously need to be insured to drive it.

They don't seem to worry if you're not the owner but DO ensure you have the booking details and your driving licence with you.

Just make sure the person bringing it has their id and not the id of the car's registered owner.

They don't check to see if the person that brings it is insured.

    So you condone driving uninsured.

If I didn't mention insurance someone like you would be on to say they should be....

I know well they don't check that but for people with your thinking they really should.

They might fail you for this, any chance they get to fail someone will be taken advantage of, for sure.

Also if it helps the car does not need to be taxed once it is signed off the road but must be booked in for a test or be able to prove its getting nct done so you are exempt from tax to get there and back.

I dont think the poster is condoning driving unininsured to be fair..,

Their point is true, ncts do not check if there's insurance cover. Damn good reason why too, an awful lot of cars are brought to test without a disc in the window - but driven there with insurance cover.

It would amount to a whole new load of bolloxing around if you had to produce proof of insurance at the nct centre too.

You might not get the certificate, they will not fail you for anything that is not NCT related.

They won't fail you for this. The person presenting the car must have valid ID, that's it. The rest is not the responsibility of NCTS. Quote from their website:

"Remember to bring ID ! Anybody who is presenting a vehicle for an NCT is required to produce their Driving Licence (or Passport) as a form of identification. Please ensure you bring your Driving Licence (or Passport) with you when presenting a vehicle, otherwise the NCTS may not be able to carry out the test.".

If i.d. was produced the day of the full test it won't be needed for the retest.

Yes I condone it. I also condone drink driving and murder. Go twist your knickers some more on that.

Just another random internet post based on nothing.

Agree, just put two family cars through a retest and only needed the original test sheet, no id or or other car details asked for.

I was wondering however what happens if you don't have the original test sheet?

Never had one with me. They have everything in their system, so there's no need to bring it down there.

Indeed he was answered, but the way you answered suggests that car needs valid insurance for NCT, which is not true.
