I'm 28 and on a Disability Allowance. I do not work. My father is 71 with a contributory pension of €230 a week. He works part time and earns €262 as well as caring for me from this weekly bringing his total weekly income to approx €500 a week. He has savings of approx €150000 - €200000 in various savings accounts.

Has he a hope in hell of getting half rate carers allowance?

Your father would have to work less than 15 hours a week.

He has no set hours as he's a local representative but less than 15. Also, I made an error, he only has 97k in savings. Now he has informed me that he will be earning €600 weekly from July.

In that case there is no point in even applying.

97,000 and less than 15 hours is within the guidelines.

He should apply anyway and see what happens, the worst they can say is no!!
