Hi I moved to Ireland just over a year ago. I live in Killarney and am looking to meet people to go climbing. I'm a beginner but did a course last summer and learnt to lead and I'm keen to do more. I only have my helmet, harness and climbing shoes at the moment but would like to start building up my own gear if I knew people to go out with. Be great to hear from some other climbers in the area. Thanks.

Do a lot more running than climbing around the Reeks, and only get up Howling Ridge and the likes when friends who are more experienced lead climbers haul me up and lend me helmets, harnesses etc.

I'd say try both Nathan Kingerlee in Outdoors Ireland and enquire with John Cronin in Cronin's Yard and they'll give you pointers.

Thanks Conor will give that a try. Went up Howling Ridge a few weeks ago with Kerry Climbing was brilliant. Fair play running up the reeks!

90 of us on Carrauntoohil for the Irish Championships outing from the Bridia Valley side yesterday. The Carrauntoohil East race from Cronin's Yard is on in a few weeks, so if you fancy swapping the adrenaline rush of dangling off a rope to flying down the Zig Zags full tilt, haul along with appropriate footwear. There is often a bit of crossover, know a couple of mountain runners who are into climbing, was out on the Reeks recently with a very strong runner who was describing a nerve shredding 10 hour descent of the Eiger.

Sounds interesting used to do some running. Ran some half marathons but never up a mountain! I'd give it a go not sure how I'd get on but can't really get weekends off this time of year, work as a chef.

There is a group that meet in Killarney every Wednesday night for trail runs. Think pace is easy enough. Any of the long runs are usually very early in the morning, home for lunch, often around the Reeks or Torc and Mangerton and the National Park, sometimes on Beara or other stretches of the Kerry Way.

That sounds good, can't make this Wednesday but maybe next week. Get my rota on Friday, I'll let you know.
