So the 2017 Champions Trophy kicks off today with England v Bangladesh. Lots of cricket to look forward to over the coming weeks.

England easily chase down a decent Bangladesh total of just over 300 for the loss of just 2 wickets. The first ever run chase over 300 in the history of the competition.

Onwards to Australia v NZ tomorrow which should be a good game, live on Sky from Edgbaston! And on Sunday also from Edgbaston the Sub Continental derby, India v Pakistan which should be played out in front or a raucous and sold out crowd.

Everyone likes the Champions Trophy. It's not dragged out like the IPL/World Cup and so every game matters.

England batted well today but their bowling looks very ordinary to me especially if Woakes is ruled out of the tournament.

Interested to see how all the rest stack up. The pitches will probably be all very batsmen friendly like today, so the team with the best variety of bowlers will do well.

Quite nice to hear Soul Limbo on the BBC2 highlights just now ... it's been a long time since BBC TV had any networked cricket.

Standings so far, Aussies look like they are good for the win today, chasing a small Bangladesh total of 182 without much bother so far. Obv NZ v AUs a few days back was a washout, so a point a piece in that affair.

Australia and Bangladesh abandoned due to rain. Surely there has to be a way of playing the remainder tomorrow or when the rain clears up. Doesn't seem fair Bangladesh can still make semi finals

England put up a decent total against the Kiwis, and their bowling has opened well, advantage England so far but still a long way to go.

Love listening to Kumar Sangakarra on commentary. He is so eloquent and there is so much going on up his head. A very clever panda.

Looking like an India v England final. The 2 deepest batting line ups.

1 game left to go for each team before the Semi-finalists are known, England are already through, but can put out the pre-tournament favourite's Australia with a win at the weekend, which would open the door for the winner of Bangladesh v Pakistan. England are likely to top the group even if they lose as long as its not a heavy defeat.

In the other group both winners of the final games are likely to go through with the winner of India v SA topping the group and 2nd being fought out by SL and Pakistan, unless that's a wildly one sided contest.

As mentioned in the above post the perhaps "Dream" Final of England v India is the likeliest of outcomes.

Bangladesh stun the Black Caps with record stand after shipping 3 quick wickets, regardless of their heroics they can now only go through if England beat Australia tomorrow at Edgbaston, or if the weather intervenese as a no result works in favour of Bangladesh under the tie break rules.

England restrict the Aussies to 277-9 in their 50 overs, Aussies looked good for well over 300 at one point so will be disappointed. That said 278 can be defended with some solid bowling, England are 11/17 favourites at the lunch interval prior to taking the field to bat. Australia need to win to progress, England are through already.

England 35-3 after 6 overs. Gone off for rain at the moment.
Hales went for a duck, and Roy went cheaply again. It'll be interesting to see if they stick with Roy for the rest of the tournament - he is completely out of form.

His batting is lame at the moment, but I did like Jason Roy's catch

Australia out, lost under the DL when the rain came, looked like England had it well in hand anyways so they need to take to on the chin tbh, Bangladesh go through in 2nd place.

England 211 all out after 49.5 overs. Not much for the batsmen there but a very low score. Pakistan big favourites

Bookies 2/1 England 1/2 Pakistan, must be tricky enough batting conditions or you'd expect England's odds to be longer defending such a low total.

About 50 light I think, not a great ground for big scoring normally though.

Shame, was hoping they'd go the whole way this year.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

111/0 in reply off just 20, looking like it will soon be done and dusted for England, underperformed badly today.

England got what they deserved for that performance, fuk all.

Good final in prospect. Pakistan are putting it up to India.

Pakistan give India a good old fashioned tonking!

That was unexpected. Fair play to Pakistan, no one gave them a chance at the start, but they put in two outstanding performances in the semi and now final. Worthy champions.
