EU Block Exemption Rules and Car Servicing

I'm thinking of getting my Kia serviced at my local Toyota garage (using original Kia parts of course) and as far as I know under EU block exemption rules this shouldn't affect my warranty but I was wondering if the manufacturers try to get round this and refuse warranty claims if not fully serviced by their dealers?

For your 2 year standard warranty it won't. The extended warranty to 7 years it will be up to them whether they honor it or not.

OK, thanks. I need to read up my warranty documents again, didn't realise there was anything different in the first two years and the remaining 5 years of the warranty. Car is in it's third year now.

The first two years are an EU minimum requirement from the manufacturer, the following 5 are from the local distributor.

The only stipulations are that genuine parts are used and the that they are fitted by a VAT registered garage. So just keep your invoices and that should do you. For fairly run of the mill claims it's unlikely anyone will even check for proof of servicing etc.

For the sake of the car i'd just make sure that the garage research the Kias service intervals as to what is due and when as they are not too comparable to a lot of Toyota's fleet. Actually, for the sake of the car is probably just bring it to Kia for the sake of keeping things airtight.

If you're going to pay main dealer money, you might as well get a Kia dealer to do it?

Thanks for the feedback lads. The reason that I'm thinking of getting the car serviced by the local Toyota dealer instead of the Kia dealer is for convenience as the local Toyota dealer is across the road from where I work. Also, we have two Toyotas here at home and have always had excellent service from Toyota, but I don't have the same confidence in the local Kia dealer...

But if it's going to risk the warranty, I'll stick with the main dealer for now.
