How much meal do you feed your dairy cows ?

    One for DAIRY farmers.. How much meal do you feed per cow per year on a system with freisin Cows and with emphasis on grassbased diet..?

    Depends on stocking rate weather grass growth. Around 400kg a cow this year it will average out at. Often fed up to 800kg a cow. Usually 550kg Mark per year

    Will feed 1.5 tonne on average this year and will sell 600 kg plus ms ,compact spring calving hol herd straight to grass within reason after calving ,think I'll get my coat and disappear now !!!!

    Split autumn spring here have fed 1.5 tonne hopefully get down to a tonne and work down from there as I switch to spring. Have fed 10grand less ration so far this year over same period last year but less milk gone out as had less autumn calvers, will see how the year balances out as will have more milking at end of summer with less calving this autumn

    Feed about 600kg here could go a bit either side of that depending on weather.
    This and cow type are probably the two topics most likely to start a row in my discussion group

    you don't mind building quality silage stocks so for coming years. Have lots of scatterd land here so ample silage is produced and stocking rate is not going up in near future
