Advice on what to do with old car

Hi, I have a Opel astra 04 1.7ltr diesel where my mechanic has told me the engine has packed in and it would cost around a grand to fit a new one. Car still starts and drives but it's rattling and it's not in a good way at all.
I'm looking to buy a second hand car atm and the place where I'm interested in buying said they would just take the car off me as it's worth nothing. Noone is offering scrappage as I'm not looking to splash out alot on a used car as it's just for getting to work.
Im just looking for advice on what to do, do I just write off the car and hand the keys over or is there more options out there where I could possibly get something for it?

    Sounds like a steaming pile.

Maybe throw up on donedeal for €100 as scrap? Or if you have the space, break it yourself and advertise for parts.

If it's still driving just bring it to an end of live centre.

Unless you want to spend hours dealing with people offering to swap for a mars bar or similar.

Those cars are worth absolutely nothing even if they're going. Which is a pity really. I know someone who had one of those and he was "lucky" to be able to have it collected for scrap free of charge.

We're too spoilt. Perfectly servicible cars going to the scrap

Multiple options depending on want you want to do.

First option is to try and get a few bob for it on Donedeal/Adverts. It's still young enough to be of interest to the breakers, or somebody might want a project.

Another option if you want to maximise its current value is to break it yourself which would entail more time and effort than the above.

The least financially viable option would be to fix it and sell it as a working car.

If you need the space or just want a quick hassle free disposal, then that'd be the easiest solution.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

if you take that option you'd really want a Cert of Destruction or the logbook signed over to the new owner

it depends on which model it is, they changed in 04, if its the older model or newer model. older one would be worthless, newer one would still have some value for breaking. what part of the country are you in?
