I know sun holidays have gone up in price but does €694 for a week in a nice enough hotel in Salou ( incl. flights) not sound a lot ?
My Friend says they have searched all over web and this is typical price at this time of year .

sounds mad to me ! this was through Expedia and other site / travel agents worth trying ?

    thanks

Sounds about right to me tbh. You might be able to get it cheaper if you stay in an apartment or go somewhere less touristy.

With Turkey and north Africa less popular, prices to Spain and Portugal are that bit more in the peak season, due to demand...

Your rent in Dublin would be that for 2 weeks.
So yeah, throw in flights, transfers and insurance and I'd say €700 sounds like a bargain.

Is that €694 per person? You could try booking flights and hotel directly yourself and you should do a bit better than that.

Late August is the absolute peak period thanks to schools being out and those last two weeks also being the traditional builders' holidays too.

Sounds quite reasonable........ I'm going to Albufeira for the long weekend, 4 nights inc flight €454.............. Porto in Sep for 5 nights is €415....... flights and hotel self booked separately.

yes per person - room and flights only - its through Expedia .
I live in east cork and my rents only €125 per week for a lovely 2 bed apt. with sea views !!

Didn't realise you were ex Cork, which does limit flight options somewhat. You could still do better by trawling around and booking directly yourself, but not that much better...

Booking.com have a few properties for < €350 for the week (room only), but none of them are anything I'd fancy staying in!

As mentioned earlier, prices have really been pushed up by demand due to Turkey and N. Africa being avoided, which does beg the question, at what point will people decide that the cost of a holiday in Spain/Portugal has become so expensive that it's worth the risk?

    Is Turkey a risk?

I wouldn't have an issue. I know plenty who have visited there in the last few months.

Besides purges, attempted coups, terrorist attacks, Kurdish rebels and a civil war next door, no!

It's such a large country and all the holiday package resorts are so far away from any trouble that I wouldn't have an issue.

I'd probably have more concerns living where I live now

The Turkish resorts such as Izmir and Antalya haven't had any problems AFAIK. It's a big country, if you're staying on the west coast you're nowhere near the Syrian border.

I'll take my chances in Portugal!

I came home from Spain one year and my passport expired at midnight the day I flew into Dublin. Wouldn't worry about it

We got a 7 night holiday to Benalamadena (not my idea of a holiday but it's about getting the family together of varying ages)

Worked out at ?240 per head, something like Aug 16 - 24

    Flying Dub - Malaga

Outbound: Ryanair, 2 checked bags, 6 front row seats
Inbound: Aer Lingus, 2 checked bags, 6 front row seats

Sharing a 3 bedroom villa with shared pool, 1km from the marina.

Seemed good value, purchased back in March though.

    Great price for July/August

    Economies of scale. :)

Always better to hire one big villa for a big bunch of people. Couples and small families on their own will pay the most for accommodation.
