I went to the doctor yesterday to get a blood test.I will have the results at some stage this week. However when i mentioned to the receptionist on the way out, that could i get a copy of the blood test results when they arrive, they were saying they would have to check with the doctor about this.they seemed hesitant about this.
is there any reason why they wouldn't give me a copy of the results?

That's general policy in a lot of places. You've a right to your information, but tests results can be sensitive or misleading and need to be interpreted and explained in context. The receptionist isn't trained to do that so he/she doesn't hand out results without the doctor's say so.

99.99999% of the time the receptionist will ask the doctor is it ok to give a copy and the doctor will say yes. I wouldn't worry too much.

Hope your results are ok :)

Secretaries are not permitted to discuss results with patients, even to say that everything is ok. Your doctor will have to tell you the results directly but after that you can get a copy of them.
