Not particularly good value for money. I wouldnt expect it to be great on fuel and its quite a low spec.

Not to be too harsh, as it does look clean and has a decent NCT but it's probably one of the worst ways to spend €2000, if you what you want is a mid 00's petrol saloon, there are far nicer alternatives in that budget.

How will you feel next year, when that Vectras NCT has expired and it will cost €500 to get it through the retest, knowing that with no NCT its worth literally €0 and with a new test it's worth €500 tops. I wouldn't give more than €1000 for it.

An Avensis would be a much better buy I think.

OP, you've gone from a petrol manual Vectra to an automatic Astra to a diesel Civic. They are all different cars with nothing in common with each other, what criteria did you use to arrive at these cars?

Thats insane money for that Astra. It's also a painful semi automatic making it worth even less, that's a €1500 car and a hard sell even at that.

Old Opels are generally worth close to zero, regardless.

What do you need in a car?

i,m looking for something that is solid and will last. I do a bit of farming so I need something that can pull a trailor.

The only criteria is that whatever I spend it will last a few years and I won't be spending money on it

Not fussy if its petrol or diesel

Have family so probably need 4 doors

Definitely sounds like a job for an Avensis they were born for that.

    /thread.

Fair few clicks on it but if you treat it right it'l do that again. Painfully reliable, good history, one owner, NCT'd, estate, hitch, all yours for a grand.

Not by a country mile. Better finished, possibly but very questionable reliability.

Jetta actually dodges a lot of the expensive issues that the Passat suffered from like the various electronic handbrake faults, ESCL faults and very expensive key fobs.

I bought an 08 avensis 1.9 D4D. 110,000 on the clock. cost 4250 at the start of June

All going well until this morning when I noticed the temperature moving up and down, car seemed to be nearly hitting the overheating lines on the gauge but didn't.

I put coolant into it and this seems to have solved the problem (there was very little coolant in the car)

Now I did notice in the last few weeks that the heater didn,t seem to be working very well

you've cured the symptom but not the problem. You should get this checked ASAP.
