A lesson in dog identification

Went for a walk this morning with my 2.
Pulled up the car and waited for a few mins cos it was flogging rain.
Got out, no sign of anyone about so I let them off into a field (there is a dogleg in the field so you can't see al of it from the gate) and suddenly a woman appears with two bichon frice.
My two and the womans 2 dogs have great fun cavorting for a couple of minutes.

I call my two up and off I go again. Put a lead on one and the other is at my heel.
Then out of the dogleg a guy appears with a black Labrador cross and I put the second dog on the lead. Was chatting to him for about 10-15 seconds when another bichon fries ( I think ? Like a bichon but black and white) rushes up and attacks one of my 2. Dog got a nice little bite.
I stupidly stuck my hand down to grab the bichon and got nipped. Didn't break skin thankfully. Stupid, I know but I was willing to leave it at that.
When I would get home I'd treat the cut on the dog and the nip on myself.

But this is the good part - the guy then turns on me telling me that I shouldn't be walking "that kind of dog in public" and that he should be muzzled. Completely loses the plot.

Bear in mind his dog bit me !!

Right says I, if that is the game you want to play !!

"What type of dog do you think it is ?"
    "Ridgeback" says he.

"Nope - Vizsla , so need for muzzle. Now give me you name and address"
    "Why" says he.
"Cos I need to bring the dog to the Vet and I need to go to the doctor and I'm sending you the bill(s)"

His lack of knowledge of dogs ( and more particularly for not knowing when he was ahead) will now cos him €122.

I had a similar issue. My dogs on leads & a Bichon attacked them. The father with 2 kids thinking it was hilarious. I asked him to control it - more laughter.

The rather cute little fluffy dog comes back a second time & unfortunately got grabbed by one of the terriers. The father starts screaming at me.

Some people! I just think people really struggle admitting when their dog is in the wrong!

One day I was in the field with my two dogs (collie and terrier) and a man and his lab cross came onto the field . All three dogs were off leash and playing around having a great time, we had a chat for a few minutes and then went our separate ways. He put his dog back on a lead and out of nowhere, his dog had a sudden disliking to my collie! It managed to wriggle out if its collar and went straight for my dog. They had a bit of a fumble, I managed to break it up and he took his dog away. No injuries...all was good!

But then..... he started shouting abuse across the field at me saying I should have my dog on a leash! I just shook my head and walked away because I do not have the time of day for these type of people! In the 10 seconds that had passed, he obviously forgot that his dog was off lead too and it was his dog that went for mine!

This is what I usually do. There's a lot of mini dogs in our park who's owners think it's hilarious if they square up to my two  I did tear strips off one guy when it had escalated to Lucy being afraid to come into the park and me nearly falling over the dogs a few times as they came at her and he wasn't best pleased! It had been going on a year and as well as Lucy being terrorised Bailey was going through his jaw troubles so was a bit fragile at the time going in and out for tests and scans etc. He tried to bully me but I had an answer for everything he said.. I pointed out that Lucy was still young and would get fed up sooner or later and could seriously injure one of his dogs. It ended the conversation telling him I'd report him to the warden if it happened again and he'd have a nice bill for 4 licenses! ;) I was a hero amongst the other terrorised owners lol

The only other time I've stepped in recently was a humper pug with his head up Bailey's butt - Bailey is post op and there's no way I'm letting a tool dog set us back so he was extracted with a gentle nudge of my foot. Owner miles away jogging.
