Brendan is just home after his snip, while he was there I asked them to check his chip as I never remember registering it to myself. They couldn't find any sign of a chip even after he was sedated, we have the forms from the spca to show that he was but strangly the number on the form shows that it was registered 2 months after we got Brendan. Is there a chance the chip was put in another dog or faulty.

I had a similar thing with my Westie. She was spayed and chipped at the same time and we got the official Fido certificate for her. I later had her in at another vets to get a kennel cough vaccine and they scanned her for their records. There was no sign of a chip despite them being very thorough and using different scanners. We took her up to where she had been chipped and again, after a thorough scanning, there was no sign of a chip. The vet reckoned that the chip may either have been faulty or may have fallen out at the time of implantation. I had to get her chipped and registered again. At the time, Fido called to confirm that the vet had been on to them but we heard nothing for ages and I ended up having to register online to get the certificate. The vet advised me to keep both the old and new certificate just in case she ever went missing and the old chip managed to show up. So yes, there can be problems with chips. You may need to get Bren chipped again and register him. I would also advise getting onto the SPCA just to clarify things as well.
