Aer Lingus - claim back on item lost in transit

As per thread title, looking to go down the route of claiming from Aer Lingus for an item that was lost whilst in their care.

Has anyone been down this road before? Item was stored in a golf bag - missing when it came out the other end of the flight. It's got a value of €400.

Are there grounds to claim back? How difficult do they make the process?

Naturally, I can go and pursue with Aer Lingus directly - and I will - but I just wanted to check and see what peoples past experiences were - with this process - any watchouts or issues to be aware of, etc.

With Airlines becoming leaner and leaner, I suspect things like this may present with difficulty in getting sorted out.

    Any feedback appreciated.

Aer lingus mangled a bag from me before and it was no massive problem to get it sorted.

filled in the form (and needed a quote from a bag repair shop for my circumstances) and sent it in. It just then took an age, but cant say they were deliberately awkward about it.

I presume you registered the loss at the airport on the day that this occurred and you've some documentation from making this report ?

Wasn't made on the day. The item was at the bottom of the bag - electronic golfing gadget. They were contacted once home and discovered it was missing.

They've said that the first item is to fill out the form - but always good to get a heads up as to any resistance/issues as part of the process.

They've come back saying that Aer Lingus have no liability for any item that's 'valuable, fragile, electronic' (there was one other category that slips my mind right now).

Whats the definition of 'valuable'!? Surely its a vague concept?

I've asked them to produce a copy of the terms and conditions that set this out.

Does the above sound equitable on their part?
