Cue links to bikes for 4000 euro... :D

(My first port of call would be Canyon anyway and either buy one or use the spec/price as a benchmark for everywhere else.)

What are you using it for? What are your expectations in relation to the groupset, weight and geometry? Do you need wheels as well?

The Rose Xeon CDX that Fian linked to is great value and one that's on my to buy list for next year if I can get approval at home :P

Only a couple of grand more; if you're spending 3 I'm sure you can reach for the extra 7

    *ahem* I'll leave now :pac:

If I was to spend 3K on a bike, I'd get a bike fit first to determine the frame size.
Next, allocate some of that 3K on a handbuilt wheelset and use the remaining budget to choose a frameset that takes 28c tyres with your choice of groupset (for me that would be SRAM eTap Red)

I'll be using it for club racing etc.. ultegra group set , and a good wheel set.

The best value would be in the 2nd hand market, you could get a super bit of kit for 3k, much more bike than you'd get new for the same money.

What size are you? I was in Base2Race a few months back and they had a really gorgeous 2016 Orro (New British manufacturer) Gold - full carbon, full 11 speed duraace, fulcrum racing 3's, top finishing kit. If I recall correctly it was a 56 and it was close enough to 3 grand to make me do a double take.

Join this Group on facebook, always lots of good kit being sold at good prices. I do note however that everything only seems to have done a few hundred Km in the dry only ;) so make sure you inspect anything properly!

Take a gander at ciclicorsa.com in Italy. They will build whatever you like, on a really nice columbus genius frame, any colour and paint job you fee like.

I think I'd probably go for something like this,

    https://www.salden.nl/en/bikes-and-frames/roadracing/roadbikes/wilier-101air-ultegra-11sp-dt-fcc-50mm.html

Think they have a self build option on the website too that you can pick and choose some of the parts.

    Savage bike.

The AL SLX is just pure joy to ride. it really is. It's my go to bike (not the one linked, mine is 2013/4)

Plus you don't have to worry about cracking carbon. And what about that groups set and wheels? Serious value! The wheels are about 1,200 quid, never mind the group set.

I see your reasoning and agree but the fact they haven't even bother to blend the welds I'd have to take a pass.

OP I'd probably be looking at a bianchi or Canyon for that money.

You can't go wrong with that really. My neighbour has a similar one, but with the sram red 22. There's nothing you'd change on it. All the finishing kit is top notch and even the bars are lovely aero jobbies.

With pretty much every other manufacturer 3 grand ish will get you carbon and more than likely ultegra but you'd be getting a much more basic wheelset or cheap own brands.

i bought the Canyon Ultimate CF SLX with Mavic Kyrsium Exalith last July on the sales for 2800 ( i think it was that price!)... has everything in a race bike, great frame, Ultegra, decent wheels.
    https://www.canyon.com/en-ie/road/ultimate/2016/ultimate-cf-slx-8-0.html

the Aeroad was 100 euro more at the time @ 2900 euro.

It looks from that one as though they have gotten rid of those aero/integrated bars. I can se them in the review link but not on the actual canyon pic. Savage machine though and those wheels are excellent I'm a big fan of the exalith breaking. Sounds a bit pants but great feel from it.

Old saying, and it is entirely true, "it's not about the bike, it's more about the engine that's on the bike"

Point us to some genetic re-engineering bargains then for around the 3000 euro mark:rolleyes:

The proper aero bars are only on the higher end models, 9.0etc. The ones on the 8 have a slightly flatter bar for resting the hands on but not really aero as such. I think the previous years alu bar was a bit more aero though.

is there much benefit of having aero bars ? i have looked at a Planet X EC-130 and it has a option of standard or aero bars (€300 more) . bar them looking good . are they worth the extra money ?

Both. They do look very good, so in that sense they are worth a few quid extra.

But, having said that, anyone who tells you they can really feel the aero benefit is gonna need some help retrieving his head from that far up his ar$e! :D

I find them by far more comfortable when climbing of for whatever reason you have your hands on top of the bars. You tend to rest your hands on the tops as opposed to gripping them.

Also they look **** hot particularly the 3T ones but they're mental money. The cheap second hand ones are knock off they're every where also.

    What size are you? .

The TCR linked to was A Medium.

    I'm 5'7 with an 80 inseam. I roughly need a 397 reach and 526 stack.
    I am on a Canyon S and use a 110mm Stem.

Using today's Canyon sizing, I'd probably be an XS and tbh I wouldn't mind as I have just about, if not less, than the minimum seat post "showing. If I were buying another I think I'd go XS and 130mm stem (like the pros!) and then I'd have another 20-30mm of seat post out of the tube. The difference between an XS and S length wise is about 10mm. It's not like XS is the "next size down" if that makes sense. Ratio wise.

Based on the above if you were a small medium, I'd jump on the following link, which won't last long tbh.

Serious value, like serious.... Was 3,999, now 2,699

    https://www.canyon.com/en-ie/factory-outlet/#category=road-bikes&sort=date&order=0&id=13652

    Good luck, someone! :)

That's a lot of bike for the money.

Maybe I should mention the downsides of the Canyon Aerobars... they are a one piece construction with an integrated stem so you can't change out a stem too adjust reach or change the angle of the bars (which would be contradictory on aerobars anyways). Mounting GPS units could be also a challenge unless you use a Garmin, as they have actually a specific Garmin mount for the bars.

I was recently in a similar position as you albeit at a lower budget that got slammed down even more after Mrs Rokta decided we require new furniture.... I chose the Endurace in the end :)

I have absolutely no need for a bike of this value, I'm purely tyre kicking in the thread, but that bike in Jet Silver Grey, holy moly
