Just wanted to share an amazing deal I got. Flights to vegas (dub phl las on way over and las lhr dub on way back) and 1 week in the Excalibur for 370 pp you have to do some tweaking on flights page but can get it a bit cheaper If you're willing to do a long layover on the way home. From the 16th January 2018

Excalibur is a bit of a dump in comparison to other resorts but its well placed on the strip and you wont be spending too long in your room to be fair, its VEGAS. but that's a good deal. Link?

    Linky for 1wk from 16/01/2018

Excalibur, Circus Circus, Stratosphere, Luxor, Flamingo all under €450 PP.

    Tempting

Excalibur wouldn't be my first choice but you could always stay in the Flamingo which is better placed and get the newer rooms, fountain view, for a better time.

The flights are likely outbound with American Airlines because I'm flying that route(in reverse) next week. The return route is likely with BA through LHR because I'm flying outbound that way this week.

Seems like an excellent BA, Excalibur getting slated here but I thought it was alright, great location.. Room was fairly outdated but it's vegas, who cares about the room. The Excalibur casino is decent too for people who aren't high rollers.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,862 ✭✭✭✭January

I've stayed at Excalibur before its fine for what it is tbh. Rooms are clean but as you said you won't be in the room a lot anyway.

Yes outbound is American Airlines and inbound is BA. All booked through ba though.

There are some savage prices there, Circus Circus from €276 pp. Crap hotel but you'll only be sleeping in it.. €276 for flights and hotel for 7 nights is lunasy!

Coming in at over €450 for me.

With a 18 hour lay over?

Go through all of the flight options, there's much lower layovers for an extra €5-20.. Think I added a 4hr layover outbound and a 2hr layover on the return for an extra €20. Didn't book it myself but seriously considering a 3 week trip and sticking a visit to relatives in texas in the middle of it. It's a very cheap way to get out that way..

Ive been in vegas a few times now and can honestly say the only time i didnt feel safe was when we went for a look in Circus Circus.

It is an absolute hell hole. Would be the equivalent of coming to Dublin for a holiday and staying in the flats in Ballymun.

After booking a week off work to both recover from a trip to a music festival and celebrate my birthday, I decided I may as well spend the week somewhere a bit different. So I booked four nights in Travelodge in Ballymun

What date was that? I'd jump on that even if its not a great hotel.

I'd personally stay on Las Vegas Boulevard Central area OR Fremont Street. Circus Circus isn't a great hotel. It's cheap for a reason. I just pass through the area on the bus/taxi when I'm there and it's not nice. Once you pass The Wynn it basically gets a bit seedy until you hit Fremont Street which is kind of like a mixture of the two. :D

I've seen Circus Circus as low as €25 a night midweek before. You can stay Off Strip as well at something like the Rio or even Hooters. :p

Is this offer finished or is it only specific dates? Cant see them prices..

I know I stayed in the Cosmo and Aria the last two times. Freemont Street now there's an idea, really like that area as much as the strip.

I'm going to spend a full evening down there next week. Staying in the Vdara this time though.

Highly recommend the Vdara. Stayed there 2 years ago. A non smoking and non casino hotel so great for families and couples. Great location. Loved it.

Circus circus and it's surrounds are fine during the day (and it's worth popping in to see the acrobatic acts they put on in the arcade zone for free) but as said at night it's not so nice.

It's crazy that it has one of the best restaurants in Vegas though. The steak house there is incredible and one of the best meals I've ever had. The hotel is an out and out dump though, only bathrooms I've been in Vegas that had injection needle bins.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,166 ✭✭✭Beefy78

Circus Circus is just too far out of the way. It's a dodgy part of the strip and any money you save on the room you'll spend on cabs getting anywhere.

Excalibur is fine. In fact there's nowhere on the strip where I wouldn't stay other than Circus Circus. Any other hotel is way better than you'd get for double the price in most other cities.

Don't forget about the "daily resort fee" most of these hotels charge, which are usually $30+ per day. Sometimes more than the room cost itself...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,728 ✭✭✭brightkane

also dont forget the $20 trick

When checking in wrap 20 dollars around your credit card when handing it to the staff member and ask if there is any available room upgrades.

we were upgraded to a fab room in the Mirage using this method 5 years ago.

no others charges for the room had to be paid.

He didnt take the money until we were satisfied with the room he had offered.

dont know if they are still doing it over there in the hotels but worth a shot.

Needs to be a 50 these days for 4night+ stays but usually the first gamble of the trip

True that! Did it two years ago and just a few weeks ago, worked a charm both times ;)

50dollars with the CC at check in got from entry level suite at vdara to Corner suite overlooking the bellagio fountains for UFC178 Sept 2015. Didn't use the washing machine or dryer or kitchen though.

I'm there next week but I've already booked that corner suite overlooking the fountains(well you can see them I guess) so wonder what $50 over 3 nights would get me. Don't really need anything bigger but hey a Sky Suite would be nice. I'll ask for a higher floor, forgot to request that. I'm staying mid week as well so a little easier.

Bumping to say las vegas 16th to 23rd January. Flights from dub to London gatwick then virgin Atlantic to vegas and same on way back and one week in a run of house room in the Excalibur is €470 pp based on two sharing atm. Great deal still.

Seems good price, but two of the hotels I checked circus circus and the stratosphere, they both have mandatory resort fees.. Range from about 30usd per night, so check these out also.. It adds about 200euro onto the price of it for the week...

All strip hotels have mandatory resort fees.

Also you don't want to stay in either of those hotels they're too far from the main strip you'd pay so much in taxis going to and from and can be dodgy at night too.

Ah right, what would u recommend? I was there 5 years ago, and stayed in the excllabour, I just didn't like having to be at the top of the strip and walking down and back up every night...

Well then you definitely wouldn't like circus circus or stratosphere because they're further. Someone else said that the flamingo was similar price to excalibur and central strip.

I'd second the Flamingo for that price. I stayed there last October and thought it was a great location, good hotel and decent price.

Would certainly avoid the Stratosphere and Circus Circus. They look like good hotels but their location is brutal.

I haven't heard much about the Excalibur, but I imagine it's of a decent enough standard. If you did opt for Excalibur, you could use the monorail for exploring the strip. There's a free one which moves between Excalibur and New York New York, from there you can take the foot bridge to MGM and take the other monorail up and down the Strip at your leisure.

The monorail stops at excalibur and doesn't go further north. The Excalibur has had room refurbs the last few years so it's updated. Still not an amazing hotel but we stayed there 3 years ago and it was perfectly fine for some where to sleep and shower etc. Rooms were clean and fresh
