Buying old car off dad to use for scrappage

Hi I am considering buying an old car off my dad (worth around €1000) and using it for a scrappage deal on a new car. Would this be possible? Will I have to get insured on the old car in my own name in a whole new policy so that I can drive it to the garage?Could I do this just for two months while I also have a policy on my own current car? I'd appreciate any advice?

Also, anyone know who is doing guaranteed scrappage amounts at the moment other than Nissan?

You need to check the brands terms and conditions as they're all different ref ownership etc

Thanks. I would register as owner of my dad's car and pay him for it so I was hoping that would clear up that issue.

I doubt it, most scrappage deals specify a 6 month or 1 year period of ownership and insurance to qualify.

Read the T&C for the scrappage deals.

Dealers interested in selling will come up a decent offer without having a car to trade. If they don't accommodate you go elsewhere.
I enquired about the scrappage with one dealer and price wise was given same deal without having to trade my car.

In fairness Salesman complained about state of second hand market with Uk imports so he didn't want another car in his yard.

Skoda,Ford,Seat,Hyundai,Toyota and others are doing scrappage.

Thanks, dad wants to get rid of his car completely without getting a replacement so we thought I could take advantage of this by getting scrappage on his old car and selling my own car privately but I'll have to read the terms and conditions

If you're not getting finance then just get your dad to buy the new car using his old one for scrappage and then transfer ownership over to you shortly afterwards. Yes it will add an extra owner but who cares if you're getting it with a scrappage discount.
