Making the stairs less creaky

    Hey all,

Living in a loft area, and the stairs to loft is rather creaky. I know that doing the triangle blocks to hold the stairs more together underneath is good for this, but as I don't have access to said area, would putting said blocks to the sides of the stairs on the top side be of any use?

Long term, I'll be sanding and varnishing the steps as well.

Have the risers shrunk, would you be able to get some polyurethane glue into any gaps between the risers and the threads, it would be a messy job but if you a going to sand the stairs it should be ok
