Confirmation name must be saint?

Is there any obligation to pick a saint's name as a confirmation name? My daughter will be making hers next year & has a name picked out which is not a saint's name but which works extremely well with her given names.

Is there any onus on her to pick a saint's name?

Disclosure: I'm an atheist, but she is being brought up Catholic by her mother.

The point of using a Saints name is to choose one who's Catholic life story inspires you and helps motivate you spiritually. That should have been explained to her, but in fairness perhaps wasn't. There is a multitude of Saints names to choose from, and I'm sure one of them will suit her very well. Not wanting a
Saints name is sort of missing the point ( and the benefit of it)

But is there a legal or theological requirement for her to pick a saint's name?

The name she emwould like is "Hope" which sits quite well with her given name and is aligned with her religion, but I'm almost 100% sure is not a saint's name.

There is a Saint Hope. Here you go:

In fairness, I cant think of any "western" name that doesnt have a saint associated with it.

That name might actually be ok, as it's one of the three essential cardinal virtues. Faith, Hope and Charity. Check with the local Priest involved, ( if you feel he is approachable, or ask her teacher to check if you feel he's not )

I think checking for legal loopholes, rather than trying to understand the sprint of the idea of taking a Saints name, and the potential benefit, might again be missing the benefit / point. I'm not saying you're trying to be negative btw. Anyways, wishing you all a nice family day, and best wishes for her confirmation.

There you go, problem solved. I'd still check though to be on the safe side. You don't want the bishop stalling the que on the day.

Im not sure if this will help. But the scho i went to allowed us to use , i cant really think of the word atm, for a saints name.

For example i wanted Karen as my conformation name, and that was gotten from St. Catherine.

We were giving a list of the the saints names and the names that come from that. If that makes any sense?

My mam choose mine...Bernadette. That was in 2003. Two girls in my class took each others names because they were best friends. Sophie and Danielle. My older brothers class all went mad for Bartholomew
