    Hi all

I'm a bit confused about this - is it mandatory to choose a contractor from the SEAI list? Just for some background, I'm planning on installing a gas central heating system and radiators in my house. The builder I currently use for various jobs said I needed to go through the SEAI - is this correct?

    thanks

You need to get an rgi plumber to install the gas.
If your applying for the government grants of zoned controls and a new gas boiler yes you have to get someone from the seai list.
But its not mandatory but I do recommend it as the install has to meet a certain criteria that is open for a audit from seai.
It just the customer the reassurance of a good install

Thanks for the reply. What if I'm not going to bother with the grant?

Then you can use who you prefer as long as any gas work is carried out by a Registered Gas Installer.
    Still apply common sense though.
Get recommendations, get a few quotes, make sure to compare like for like and check they are insured.

Not a problem once their RGII (Register of Gas Installers Ireland) regestered.
Only they can legally install & service.
Names are on the RGII website for you to check.

Whether you go for the grant or not is your choice, but do go for zoned system, which would give you seperate control over bedroom, living and hot water. Each zone also controlled by a thermostat. It's simple to install on a complete new system.
    Very hard to change afterwards.

Your entitled to a grant for that, which use to be €600 (not sure what the exact figure is now as I don't install gas anymore) But why not check it out ?

Most important, check on brand of boiler, there's good and bad out there. Bad can cost 100s extra on repairs over its life span.
The gas guys here will tell you whats good if you ask.
