Planning permission for sun tunnel - Yes or No?

We have a 3 storey town house holiday home. The landing/stairs area is quite dark. I'm thinking of putting in a sun tunnel to improve things. While the U Value wouln't be quite as good as a Velux/Fakro roof window, I'm not too bothered by this because it's only used by us as a holiday home. I'd go for a Keylite sun tunnel because they appear to have a better U Value that the Velux one.

My question is, would I need planning permission for this as it would be at the front of the house? The house doesn't overlook any property (house etc.) to the front. It's an area where nothing could ever be built.

The obvious answer to my question is to ring Kerry Co. Co. to ask. I did that some time ago and only got a vague answer from the guy I spoke to.

Has anyone here installed one at the front of their home and did you have to get planning permission for it?

    Thanks.

You won't get an official answer from any council unless you lodge a Section 5 application.

Put the information together and lodge that, then they will give you an official answer in writing.

    Thanks KC.

I'm sure I'll definitely end up doing exactly as you said but I'd still like to hear from someone who did what I'm hoping to do...........

Technically planning required as to the front.
You could argue it doesn't effect the streetscape depending on size of the bubble.

development consisting of the carrying out of works for the maintenance,
improvement or other alteration of any structure, being works which affect
only the interior of the structure or which do not materially affect the
external appearance of the structure so as to render the appearance inconsistent
with the character of the structure or of neighbouring structures
    ;

The above is what the section 5 application is assessed under.

While I know this post is a planning post, I have written before about getting this done right and for a HH, sensor controlled good quality LED lighting is a better option..
When I last suggested it I shipped a sub load of ICBMs, so no need for repeat or I will call my pal Kim :)
